A Phone Number Allocation describes the use of a single Phone Number. This is defined through the:
- Associated Phone Number
- Phone Number Allocation State
- Expiration (optional)
. The Phone Number Allocations States are:
- Assigned
- Reserved
Only one Lync or Skype for Business user may be assigned a specific Phone Number at a time, however different Endpoint Types can share a Phone Number. A Phone Number may have zero, one or multiple Phone Number Allocations, these Phone Number Allocations may all be in different Phone Number Allocation States.
Example:
A Phone Number may have two Phone Number Allocations, one associated with the PBX phone and the other associated to the user’s Primary (Main) Line. Both Lines ring in parallel when there is an incoming call, known as dual-forking. This setup results in two Phone Number Allocations for the same phone number: One for system Communication Endpoint Type Lync and the second for custom Communication Endpoint Type PBX phone. Both allocation would be in the “Assigned” state.
