Inherited

Inherited settings are settings that have been set for the geography and vendor/model scope for the device(s), that are higher in the hierarchy than the current geography or vendor/model scope setting for that device(s). Inherited settings can be overwritten by new scope settings that are lower in the Scope’s hierarchy, that is, inherited settings can be overwritten by specific settings that are more targeted to specific devices.

Example:

1.  For devices in Seattle, the inherited settings would be for devices that are located in United States. An example setting would be to set 911 as the emergency number. This inherited setting is set for all devices throughout the USA, as it is the standard emergency number.

2.  For Germany, the inherited setting for the user interface language is German. An English-speaking executive of a company moves to Germany for 6 months, and needs the display on the device to be set to English. A new scope setting will be set, and once set the inherited setting will be overwritten for the particular device that the executive uses to change the display to be English.
