Feature Configuration Concepts

Feature Configuration Concepts provides a foundation in the understanding of the concepts of PowerSuite’s Device Management Feature Configurations, and how they are used to control the behavior of your organization’s devices.

A Feature Configuration is a set of device settings that are related to the same device feature, and their respective values.

Example:

A Feature Configuration may be set for German to be the device display language for all the devices in the company’s Zurich office in Switzerland.

Feature Configurations are applied to sets of devices, which have been selected using the Geography and or Vendor/Model filters. A Feature Configuration can also be applied to a single device. Each filtered set of devices, or individual device is called a Scope.  A Feature Configuration can be applied to one or multiple scopes.

Example

Geography: EMEA scope

Vendor/Model: Poly VVX201 scope

Any modifications made to the Feature Configuration will automatically be applied to the scopes associated to the Feature Configuration, the next time the device connects to the Listen Address.

Example:

A Feature Configuration to set the language to French is created for the vendor Poly. The Feature Configuration is created using the setting lcl.ml.lang with French_France as the value. This Feature Configuration is then applied to the scope Poly VVX201, and EMEA scope. The scopes were selected, using the Vendor/Model Scope filter to select all devices of the model type Poly VVX201, and the Geography Scope filter to select all devices in the EMEA location. The next time the Poly VVX201 devices in EMEA contact the Listen Address, each Poly model VVX201 within your EMEA organization will have the UI language set to French, unless a higher priority scope has a different language configured. Example: if Germany has applied a Feature Configuration to set German as the language for their Poly VVX201 devices to have German as their language. The settings in this Feature Configuration for the German Scope will override the settings for the EMEA Scope, as the Germany Scope is higher priority.
