Explanation of Inherited and Scope for Feature Configurations

All scopes inherit all the Feature Configurations from their parent geography and vendor/model scopes.

Example:

The scope for the device model VVX 201 inherits the Feature Configurations from the scope for the device vendor Poly, who manufacturers the VVX 201 device.

Example:

The scope for the city Berlin inherits the Feature Configurations from the scope for the country Germany, and from the scope for the region EMEA.

NOTE:

In addition, every scope inherits Feature Configurations from the Global scope. Therefore, each device will have Feature Configurations that have been set for all devices within your organization.

Example:

A company requires the worldwide device language to be English; therefore, the company sets the Global scope to English. Setting the Global scope to English results in all devices in the company receiving that setting, regardless of their model and their geographical location. However, devices from an incompatible vendor will not receive the settings. If Poly setting lcl.ml.lang=English_United_States is set as the Global scope, only Poly devices would receive the setting, as it is not compatible for other vendors, therefore, devices from other models would not receive the setting. In order for English to be the language for all worldwide devices, the vendor setting for English would need to be set as the Global scope for all vendors.

The Global scope represents all of the devices within your organization, and therefore does not inherit any Feature Configurations.
